Sunil Gavaskar has urged Rohit Sharma to let Ravichandran Ashwin the team out during the final Test match. India and England will lock horns in Dharamshala during the fifth Test which is set to start on the 7th of March.

It is an important game for Ashwin as he will to the field for the 100th time in the longest format. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled his heart out to pick 5/51 which made him the highest Indian bowler with fifers in Test cricket.

Team India were able to bowl out England for a mere 145 to limit the lead to 191. The other two spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja also bowled well to keep the pressure on the English bowlers.

Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Ravichandran Ashwin

At the end of day three of the India vs England 2024 Ranchi Test, Ravichandran Ashwin took away the plaudits. The 37-year-old had bowled well to pick yet another fifer in Test cricket which also included the scalp of Joe Root.

As the day ended, Sunil Gavaskar while speaking to Ashwin on Jio Cinema said "India win tomorrow and you go to Dharamsala. I hope Rohit allows you to lead the team out to the field when. That will be a wonderful gesture, a wonderful honour for all that you've done for Indian cricket.”

The Indian spinner replied by saying “Sunny bhai, you're being too generous. Thank you so much. I have no expectations of all these things. I think I'm well past all that but genuinely saying I'm enjoying every single moment that I am being with this team and the longer it lasts, I will be very happy.”

Former England skipper Naseer Hussain also praised the veteran Indian star while writing in Daily Mail. “People have been saying Ashwin has had a quiet series, but this game has been a reminder that you don’t keep a great cricketer down. Root proved as much in England’s first innings, and Ashwin underlined the point in their second. You could see the fire in his eyes when Rohit gave him the new ball: he was determined to stamp his class on the series. He even treated us to a carrom ball to get rid of Foakes." Opined Naseer Hussain.
