On Tuesday, June 27, a special event was held in Mumbai to reveal the schedule for the next ODI World Cup 2023. The opening game of the mega event will be played between the finalists of the 2019 edition, England, and New Zealand, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with less than 100 days left in the competition.

Meanwhile, there were allegations made by the Punjab Sports Minister Gurpreet Singh Meet Hayer on the Indian Cricket Board for ignoring Mohali as the venue for the ODI World Cup. He said that there is some politics behind it. However, the Indian Cricket Board’s Vice President Rajeev Shukla has opened up on the matter and said that the condition of the stadium is not well.

"All bilateral matches will be given to Mohali, there will be no discrimination. The 100th Test match of Virat Kohli had been given to Mohali. Their Mullanpur stadium is getting ready and is said to be finished. Had Mullanpur been ready, they would have definitely hosted the World Cup, but Mohali was not meeting the standard fixed by the apex cricket body. That's why it has been denied." Shukla was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

I think it is a well-dropped schedule: Rajeev Shukla

Shukla further said that it is quite a fair schedule as some new venues are also added. He said that UP never got a chance to host a World Cup match before this and a lot of venues from the South are also added.

"I think it is a well-dropped schedule. Everybody has pondered over it and new venues have been added. Lucknow and Guwahati have been given a chance. UP never got a chance to host a World Cup ever before. A lot of many venues from the South have been added. They have given a fair amount of consideration before finalising the venues.

"Secondly, you should always keep in mind (that) the officials have to approve all those venues. It's not probably in the Indian Cricket Board's hands. All those who are alleging objections should realise that we need the consent of the cricket’s governing body also while picking up these venues," he said.
