The Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan had a bittersweet ending, as the match did not have an eventual result due to the interruption of rain. Only the first innings was possible in the match. Even that was interrupted by a short spell of rain, which actually changed the course of the game. Before the rain interruption, India had a decent start to their innings. 

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in Pallekele. On a slow pitch, India found themselves at 15/0 in 4.2 overs before rain interrupted the match. The small break helped Pakistan to regroup. As a result, Pakistan had India at 66/4 and got the upper hand. Shaheen Afridi got two big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Haris Rauf dismissed the likes of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. 

India needed a big partnership to stay relevant in the game, which was provided by the duo of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya. For the fifth wicket, the duo posted a 138-run partnership, which helped India to get to a respectable total. Towards the end, Bumrah played a fine cameo and dragged India to a total of 266 runs. 

Rain interrupts the match and has the last laugh

As soon as the Indian innings finished, rain interrupted the match. There was no stopping the rain from there. It poured heavily and destroyed the possibility of the resumption of the match. The ground staff tried their best to clear the ground. Unfortunately, the rain did not stop at all. The umpires had a chat and decided to call off the match due to the interruption of rain. 

In the end, rain had the last laugh, as the match ended without a result. Both the teams got a point each, which means that Pakistan qualified for the Super 4 stage of the tournament. For the remaining spot, India and Nepal will play against each other. The winner of the match will qualify for the Super 4 stage from Group A, along with Pakistan.
