'2 din ruko fir ghayal hojaayega' - Fans react as Shreyas Iyer likely to be fully fit ahead of upcoming 2023 World Cup

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is suffering from his back injury which he sustained in the recently concluded 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia due to which he was also ruled out of the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. After this, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) named Nitish Rana as their captain in place of Iyer. 

Meanwhile, Iyer, who was in London, recently underwent a successful back surgery and is likely to be included in India’s playing XI for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India this year. India already suffered two huge blows when Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah were ruled out of the World Cup due to injury.

It’d be great for the Indian team if Iyer will be in the team for the World Cup as their search for the No. 4 batter would be over. Iyer records for India while playing in the middle order in the 50-over-over format over the past few years. However, India will miss him in the Test Championship final in June against Australia. It’d be interesting to watch how well the Indian team will play against the Aussies without Pant, Bumrah, and Iyer.

KKR's bad performance in IPL 2023 so far

Meanwhile, the two-time IPL champions KKR are missing Iyer a lot this season as they are able to win only 2 two matches out of 6, and are currently sitting bottom half of the points table. Rana didn't live up to the expectation of leading the team and many believe that the management could've chosen someone else instead of him.

However, we all know how KKR have made some remarkable comeback whenever they were in this position earlier. The last match they played was against Delhi Capitals (DC), in which they lost by 4 wickets. Their performance with the bat was really bad as they scored only 127 runs, however, their bowling performance was great as they stretched the match to the last over but unfortunately lost the match.
