The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are yet to play a T20I match after the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal. India lost the game against eventual champions, England, and since then, both players have been rested for the shortest format of the game. They were asked to concentrate on ODI cricket and the team reached the final of the World Cup, losing the final against Australia.

Recently, it was reported that the likes of Kohli and Sharma might make a comeback against Afghanistan for the three-match T20I series. If this happens, it might mean that they might also play in the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, T20 World Cup 2007 winner, Irfan Pathan feels that both players must be part of the team

"Personally, I would like to see Virat on the pitch because when we talk about two years back, definitely he was not in his best form. But the last IPL and T20 were one of the most amazing tournaments for him. Also, when you are playing in countries like West Indies and the USA, there are quite a few unknown pitches, and here you will need experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both on and off the field," Pathan told Star Sports.

The former India all-rounder added that both players participation will depend on the team management and their fitness.

"The playing of both the players also depends upon team management and their fitness, but I would love seeing both of them on the field, especially when Rohit has also changed his form and has been making a lot of runs in One Day Cricket," he added.
