Ravindra Jadeja is known for his wit on and off the field. He did not disappoint as a smart ‘Two Word’ tweet to commemorate ten years of Indian winning their last major title in the 2013 Champions Trophy went viral on Twitter. Notably, India defeated England in the rain-drenched final at Edgbaston to lift their last major trophy. Today, on 23rd June, the nation celebrates 10 years of the iconic victory.

Celebrating the occasion, Ravindra Jadeja, who won the Man of the Match in the coveted final for scoring 33* off 25 balls and picking up 2 wickets for 24 runs, posted a photo of himself with the two individual awards he won on the day. While one was the Man of the Match award, the other was the Golden Ball – awarded to the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. Notably, Jadeja picked up 12 wickets in five matches maintaining a bowling average of 12.83.

India won the closely fought final of Champions Trophy 2013 by 5 runs

He captioned the image ‘Golden Boy #missioncompleted.’ Indian fans went gaga over the tweet and flooded the comment section. Most tweets argued that the mission is actually not completed and that winning the 2023 World Cup at home would complete the mission for Jadeja. At the same time, other comments were admiration messages for the allrounder who was also hailed the ‘Greatest Allrounder’ by many in the comment section.

Talking of the memorable final, rain interruptions at Edgbaston had reduced it to a 20-overs-a-side final. India batted first and could only put up 129/7 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli (43 off 34), Shikhar Dhawan (31 off 24), and Ravindra Jadeja (33 off 25) were the only Indian batters to reach double figures. In reply, England were halted at 124/8 thanks to Ishant Sharma’s inspired spell that removed set batter Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara. Later, India’s spin twins managed the run flow and took the team over the line. The game came to be called an MS Dhoni masterpiece over the years.

The Indian Cricket Board has just announced the ODI and Test squads for the upcoming tour of the West Indies and the USA. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja has found a mention in both and will be an integral part of the upcoming series. He was last in action for India in the coveted one-off final of the World Test Championship for the 2021-23 cycle against Australia where India lost comprehensively by 209 runs.
