Australia defeated India in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final after which the Indian team is being criticised a lot after India's defeat in the WTC Final. Many fans and former cricketers have cited that the Indian players couldn’t set their priorities between IPL and international matches.

Meanwhile, former Indian team captain and Indian Cricket Board President Sourav Ganguly has given a statement that has garnered a lot of attention from the fans. Ganguly has appealed to India’s star allrounder Hardik Pandya to make a comeback in Test cricket.  Ganguly also continued by saying that Indian management shouldn't base judgments on players' futures on a single game, like the WTC Final, in a hasty manner. Many fans have reacted to the statement and have given their opinion on the same.

"I hope Hardik Pandya is listening. I want to see him play Test cricket, especially in these conditions. Let’s not jump to conclusions due to just one loss, India will always have talent. And I don’t think it is time to look beyond Virat (Kohli) or (Cheteshwar) Pujara. Virat is just 34. India has enormous reserves.

Pandya could be that X-factor in the WTC final: Ricky Ponting

"When you look at some of the performances. I don’t consider IPL performances if we are sticking to Test cricket. In domestic cricket, there are some fantastic players and you will only find out when you give them opportunities. Whether it be Yashasvi Jaiswal or Rajat Patidar. Abhimanyu Easwaran from Bengal scores a lot of runs. Shubman Gill is young as is Ruturaj Gaikwad.” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Sports Tiger.

Earlier, former legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting also talked about Pandya and he could’ve been an X-factor in the recently concluded WTC final as he believes Pandya was bowling really well in IPL 2023.

“I know he is on record saying that the Test match game is probably a little bit hard on his body. But for a one-off game… he’s been bowling every game through this IPL and he’s bowling quick. He (Pandya) could be that X-factor there just to pick in a one-off game, come in and see what he can do with bat and ball. He could be the difference between the two teams,” Ponting was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
