The task of India's cricket selectors is to assemble the best talent available to represent the nation in international competitions. However, in recent years, the selectors have let down many supporters by denying opportunities to young or talented players. A recent example is the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final, which omitted the top Test bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin.

Meanwhile, there were some rumours going around social media about the former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag becoming the next chief of the Indian selection committee. However, Sehwag has finally broken his silence on the matter and revealed that there is nothing like that and no one has approached him for the role. Sehwag was asked by a reporter from the Times of India about the rumours, to which he replied, “No”.

Sehwag is currently working as an analyst on various platforms

After retiring from international cricket, Sehwag started working as a Hindi commentator and as an analyst on various TV channels. He also does promotions for various brands and earns an impressive amount of money from all these activities. A member of the Indian selection committee earns around INR 1 crore per year and according to an official from the Indian Cricket Board, the amount is too less for someone like Sehwag.

"During CoA's time, Viru was asked to apply for the head coach's job and then it went to Anil Kumble. It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature," an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

However, all the eyes are on the Indian selectors once again as the squad for the upcoming 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is India’s tour of West Indies is yet to be announced. It’d be interesting to see if any new face will get a chance or if the selectors will continue to give opportunities to the veteran cricketers.
