Ravichandran Ashwin is all set to replace Axar Patel in the India squad in the ODI World Cup 2023. Axar sustained a quadricep injury while playing the match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. The spin-bowling All-rounder missed the Australian series following the injury. The news of Axar was worrying the fans and India is likely to announce Ashwin as his replacement in the tournament.
Ashwin was picked in the ODI series against Australia as a backup for Axar. The spin bowler performed well in the series. In the first ODI in Mohali, Ashwin picked the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne and conceded only 47 runs in his 10 overs. In the second ODI, Ashwin was the best bowler of India. the 36-year-old turned the ball both ways and troubled the Australian batters with his spin bowling.
The off spinner picked the wickets of Labuschagne, David Warner, and Josh Inglis. In his 7-over spell, Ashwin conceded only 41 runs and claimed 3 wickets. The performance of Ashwin was lauded by the fans and the management seems to back the experienced player. The sources said that the right arm spinner is almost confirmed to replace the injured Axar in the Indian squad.
'You cannot take away the class and the experience' - Rohit Sharma
"Axar is suffering from a quadricep injury, which takes a long time to heal. KL Rahul was suffering from a similar injury and took four months to recover. It makes sense to not rush him now for the World Cup, given the way Ashwin has bowled in this series," said the source after Ashwin's brilliant performance in the series against Australia. Even Rohit was impressed with the performance of Ashwin.
"He has got the class; he has got the experience of playing the sport and he has handled the pressure. It is just that he has not played ODIs in the last year or so. But you cannot take away the class and the experience. He has got a lot of variations up his sleeve," said the Indian captain after the impressive performance of Ashwin against Australia.

Ashwin Only Play Worldcup For India 😂

Bad decision from BCCI. Washington Sundar should have been picked ahead of Ashwin. We saw on the 3rd ODI that tail end batting is horrible. One bad day in quarterfinal or semifinal (like in world cup 2019) will expose the batting depth of India

Ashwin should play in Chennai or else there would be no use of picking him up in squad...
