Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza is appointed as the mentor of Bangalore for the inaugural season of the Women's T20 League. Bangalore signed up a lot of star cricketers in the auction. India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana will be seen playing for Bangalore as they signed her for INR 3.4 cr.

Meanwhile, Mirza, who played her major tournament at the 2023 Australian Open, will be seen motivating and encouraging the women’s team of Bangalore as she has a lot of experience performing on the biggest platforms. Bangalore welcomed Mirza with a beautiful post on Twitter, that read,

“The pioneer in Indian sports for women, a youth icon, someone who has played Bold and broken barriers throughout her career, and a champion on and off the field. We are proud to welcome Sania Mirza as the mentor of the RCB women’s cricket team,” the RCB wrote.

I was a little surprised but I was excited: Sania Mirza

Sania Mirza won six Grand Slam titles in her career and, recently, she competed in the Australian Open in the mixed doubles event with Rohan Bopanna and finished runners-up. Mirza talked about the new role and said that she was really excited. She said that her next job is to make girls believe that sports can be one of their first career choices for them.

“I was a little surprised but I was excited. Fortunately or unfortunately, I've been a professional athlete for 20 years. My next job is to try and help young women and young girls believe that sports can be one of the first career choices for them,” Mirza said in a chat with Bangalore after her appointment.

“(There are) so much commonalities (between cricket and tennis). Every athlete thinks the same way, they go through same kind of pressure. Just handling pressure situations, embracing them is very important. Pressure is a privilege, if you can't embrace it, you can't excel at it. The biggest of champions are those who can handle the pressure,” Mirza said.

“That aspect of it, the mental aspect is something I look forward to working with the girls. What Indian T20 League has done for men's cricket, if that can be done for women's cricket, playing sport can become a natural option for young girls.”
