Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik made his debut in 2004 but couldn’t keep the consistency which was the main reason behind him being in and out of the team. And now he is unlikely to make a return to the national team as the youngsters are proving themselves in the shortest format with better gameplay.
The last international match he played was on November 2022, since then he is out of Indian team management’s T20I squad scheme. However, the 37-year-old will be in action in the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League this year for Bangalore. He had a brilliant season last year as he played many finishing knocks for the franchise.
Karthik was introduced in the international circuit before former Indian cricketer and one of the most successful captains in the world, MS Dhoni. The 2011 World Cup-winning captain didn’t have a good start initially in his career but once he had a great start, he never looked back after it and achieved many feats in his career.
I had no regret, he took every opportunity: Dinesh Karthik
Karthik has many times accepted the fact that Dhoni was a great player and a skipper, he himself has to wait for those opportunities over a long period of time remaining focused. Karthik never vented out his frustration in his career, which is probably why he is still playing cricket and has been rewarded with a few opportunities that he has somewhat capitalised on like Nidahas Cup 2018.
Meanwhile, he talked about Dhoni again recently and said that they both started together in India A but Dhoni outperformed everyone and he had no regrets about that as Dhoni took every chance and showed a great display while batting or behind the wickets as well.
Karthik in Bangalore’s Podcast said, "Dhoni & I started together in India A, I was picked first then Dhoni had a terrific India A tour, it was Dhoni mania then, I had no regrets, he took every opportunity, became number 1 keeper & hero for the public with his performance".
