The final match of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League has been moved to 29th May 2023, Monday as persistent rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium didn’t allow for the game to take place. The fans would be hoping that the rain doesn’t play a spoilsport tomorrow and they can witness a complete game of T20 cricket.
All the cricket fans around the globe were excited to witness the final between two top teams, however, consistent spell of rain didn’t allow even the toss to take place. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad boasts of outstanding drainage facilities.
The officials were hoping to organize a curtailed match as rain had stopped for a brief period. However, all those happy faces soon turned sad as rain arrived again which prevented further course of action. The officials monitored the situation till 11:00 pm local time but with little hope to stage the game, they, eventually, called it a day.
As it stands out, the rescheduled match will start at 7:30 pm tomorrow, which is the reserve day. If the match won’t take place tomorrow as well, then Gujarat Titans will be crowned as champions as they finished at the top of the table after the league stage.
Notably, this is the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League that a final match would be rescheduled on the reserve day. The last time a play off match was shifted to the reserve day was back in the 2014 edition. It was the qualifier 1 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
Chennai Super Kings have four titles to their name and would be eager to clinch their fifth one and become the joint most successful team in the tournament alongside Mumbai Indians. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, are keen to grab their second consecutive title and announce their dominance in the league.
The fans would want that they would be able to see a complete game tomorrow. Here's a look at how they have reacted to the recent development:
