Team India is currently locking horns with Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in Kandy, Sri Lanka which happens to be the opening fixture of Men in Blue in the 16th edition of the Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first.

After winning the toss, the Indian openers, Rohit and Shubman Gill came onto the crease to start the proceedings. Both the batters put on a partnership of 15 runs before Rohit was sent back to the pavilion after scoring just 11 runs off 22 balls with two fours in his innings.

The other Indian batters like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill failed to deliver. All of these players were dismissed cheaply by the bowlers of Men in Green. Kohli was able to score only four runs from seven balls whereas on the other hand, Iyer was able to score only 14 runs off nine balls, which included two fours in his innings.

Gill played one of the slowest knocks of his career so far. He scored just 10 runs from 32 balls he faced in his innings, where he slammed only one four. After 29 overs, India has a score of 147 runs with the loss of four wickets. Ishan Kishan is batting on 54 runs and Hardik Pandya is batting on 37 runs.

“We are going to bat first. There is a bit of weather around, but can’t think much about it. Got to play good cricket, you need to embrace the challenge, embrace the situation. We had some time off after the West Indies series,” Rohit was quoted as saying after winning the toss.

“Everyone was up for those drills and challenges in Bangalore. Let’s see what we can achieve in this tournament. It’s a quality tournament with quality oppositions. At the end of the day we need to see what we can achieve as a team. Iyer is back, Bumrah is back and we got three seamers. Got two spinners – Kuldeep and Jadeja,” the right-hand batter added.
