'Ab toh retirement le le' - Fans react as Ian Bell speaks about James Anderson's role for upcoming Tests in India

After a poor showcase from the veteran English bowler, James Anderson in the recently concluded Ashes 2023 would not have pleased the star English pacer as well as his fans. There have been many former players who even went on to criticize Anderson for his performance throughout the Test series.

Now, the former England player, Ian Bell, has encouraged James Anderson to succeed in India when the Ben Stokes-led team visits the country for a five-match series that is set to start on January 25 of next year. Notably, everyone was waiting to see if Anderson would join legendary bowler Stuart Broad in retiring when he made the announcement.

The 41-year-old made it clear that he has no such intentions and that in the future, he wants to play for England. Bell also stated that Anderson can mentor the upcoming group of English pacers and be a dependable option in India with the dry ball.

“One player England don’t need to worry about losing just yet is James Anderson. Just because Stuart has retired doesn't make him more likely to follow suit in my opinion. England will need his experience in India, not to mention his reliability to bowl dry. He will have a big job helping this next England seam attack develop,” the star England top-order batter said.

England will need to be smart when they tour India: Bell

The former England batter also supports the narrative that the captain of the England Test team Ben Stokes gave regarding the impact of Bazball. The skipper said that, unlike other countries like South Africa, Pakistan, and Australia, Bazball will work out in India.

“As Ben Stokes said in the press conference the other day, he's been asked whether Bazball would work against Pakistan, South Africa, Australia. So, yes, it will be used in India. But it will be an adapted Bazball. That's what was so good about the Ashes. England showed they could learn and adapt as the series went on. In India they will need to be smart,” Bell concluded.
