Hardik Panya-led India suffered a setback by 6 wickets against West Indies in the second ODI of the series at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. With the victory, the hosts have tied the series at 1-1 with one game to go which will now be the series decider. Shai Hope elected to field first upon winning the toss and dropped a great bowling performance to restrict India to 181 before bundling them out inside 41 overs.

Opening batter Ishan Kishan top-scored for the Men in Blue with a run-a-ball 55, including six fours and a maximum. His partner Shubman Gill added 34 off 49, including five fours. The opening stand added 90 runs for India in 16.5 overs. Therefore, the visitors did get a decent start on a difficult batting surface. However, they suffered a batting collapse as eight wickets fell for the next 91 runs. Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shephard returned with three wickets each, recording figures of 3/36 and 3/37, respectively. Alzarri Joseph followed closely with 2/35. Jayden Seales and Yannic Cariah picked up one wicket each while Kyle Mayers remained wicketless in his short five-over spell.

West Indies skipper Shai Hope with 63* off 80 balls was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’

In response, the hosts cruised to the target within 37 overs. Captain Shai Hope remained not out at 63 off 80, including two boundaries and two maximums. Alongside him, Keacy Carty at 48* off 65, including four boundaries helped them over the finishing line. Earlier, Kyle Mayers had set up the foundation of the run chase with 36 off 28, including four boundaries and two sixes. His opening partner, Brandon King could not influence the game too much falling for 15 off 23 after a 50+ opening partnership.

As far as India’s bowling is concerned, allrounder Shardul Thakur returned with the best bowling figures of 3/42 in eight overs. Kuldeep Yadav scalped the wicket of the only other dismissed whereas five Indian bowlers – Hardik Pandya, Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik, Ravindra Jadeja, and Azar Patel remained wicketless. The series decider will be played at Trinidad’s Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium on Tuesday, August 1.
