England star pacer Jofra Archer is set to return to the squad for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India. The Sussex coach Paul Farbace said on Wednesday, July 26. The 28-year-old fast bowler burst onto the scene to star as England triumphed in their first World Cup on home soil four years ago.
Injuries have dogged the Sussex bowler since. He's endured elbow surgery numerous times, as well as a back stress fracture that hampered his planned comeback last year. Archer made a brief comeback earlier this year with overseas tours to South Africa and Bangladesh.
I think he is on course for the World Cup: Paul Farbace
Paul Farbace stated, "He’s going well. I think he is on course for the World Cup which is fantastic news. "He is going nicely. I think England will need to work out how to get the best out of him over the next few years if he is to go to that next Ashes series."
He also featured in IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians (MI). But the speedster played only five matches before returning home for "rest and rehabilitation". However, there is still faith in his abilities and virtually unrivalled skill, as the Mumbai Indians allegedly gave him a full-time deal.
The pacer's return will definitely be a massive boost for the England Cricket team. He was their highest wicket-taker at the 2019 ODI World Cup, picking up 20 scalps at an average of 23.05 from 11 matches. He will miss The Hundred and home white-ball series too ahead of the World Cup and has played 21 ODIs and 15 T20Is for England.
The England management and coaching team must successfully manage Archer's workload to ensure his fitness and form are maintained over the long term. Archer's position in England's future campaigns will be critical, and the squad will be eager to find a strategy to maximise his performances.
On July 27th, the 'Three Lions' will play the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Kennington Oval. Ben Stokes led side are 2-1 down against Australia who already have retained the Ashes after the fourth Test's last day got washed out.
