Lucknow Super Giants defended the lowest total of IPL 2023 as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs in match number 26 of the season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, LSG posted a total of 154 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In reply, RR could only reach 144 for the loss of six wickets even after a good start by the openers.

Skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers gave a fine start to LSG by adding 82 runs for the first wicket in 10.4 overs. Rahul got out after scoring 39 runs off 32 balls with four fours and a maximum, while Mayers went on to score his third half-century of the season and got out after scoring 51 off 42, hitting four fours and three sixes. After Mayers’ dismissal, LSG went on to lose a couple of wickets in a short period of time.

After that, Marcus Stoinis (21 off 16) and Nicholas Pooran (29 off 20) took charge in the middle overs by putting up a partnership of 45 runs for the fifth wicket as LSG crosses 150 runs. For RR, Ravichandran Ashwin scalped 2 wickets by conceding 23 runs in his four overs, while Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder took one each.

RR lost the momentum after a great opening stand

Chasing the total, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave a good and steady start to RR by adding 87 runs for the first wicket in 11.3 overs. Jaiswal got out after scoring 44 runs off 35 balls with four fours and two sixes. After that, the hosts went on to lose the next two wickets in the next couple of overs as the skipper Sanju Samson got out for just 2 runs in the 13th over. In the very next over, Buttler also got out after scoring 40 off 41 balls hitting four fours and a maximum. An over later, Shimron Hetmyer also lost his wicket without doing much as the score was reduced to 104 for 4 in 15.1 overs.

After that, Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag took the inning further with 19 runs needed off the last over. Padikkal (26 off 21), however, got caught behind by Pooran on the third ball of the last over by Avesh Khan. On the very next ball, Avesh struck again and dismissed Dhruv Jurel, who ended up giving a catch to Deepak Hooda at long-on. At last, RR fell short by just 10 of  LSG’s total.
