The India A women's team on Wednesday, won the Women’s Emerging teams’ Asia Cup 2023. To steal the silverware, the Shweta Sehrawat-led team outsmarted Bangladesh A ladies. India chose to bat first, scoring a meagre 127 for 7, but the bowlers quickly up to the challenge, sharing seven wickets between them to dismiss Bangladesh for 96 in 19.2 overs with RCB fame Shreyanka Patil (4/13) and Mannat Kashyap (3/20).

India dominated the field thanks to an outstanding display of spin bowling. On a sluggish Mission Road Ground pitch, off-spinner Patil and slow left-arm orthodox Kashyap were in charge. For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter was left stranded on 17 not out while Sobhana Mostary and Nahida Akter each scored 16 runs.

On the other hand, the Indian batters had a difficult time scoring runs. Surprisingly, just four of them reached double digits, and Bangladeshi spinners regularly took off wickets, preventing India from forming any meaningful partnerships. The other two Indian batters to reach double-digit runs were wicketkeeper U Chetry (22) and captain Shweta Sehrawat (13) in addition to Vrinda and Ahuja.

Both off-spinner Sultana Khatun (2/30) and slow left-arm orthodox bowler Nahida Akter (2/13) took two wickets each for Bangladesh. India advanced to the final after their semifinal match against Sri Lanka was called off on Tuesday without a bowl being taken. India played just one game leading up to the final, their opener against the hosts Hong Kong, which they won by nine wickets, in an odd turn of events. The event was actually ruined by rain, which resulted in up to eight games being called off.

“What a sensational victory! Congratulations to the India ‘A’ women’s cricket team for winning the ACC #WomensEmergingTeamsAsiaCup! Each team showed great spirit and fought fiercely till the end. Bright days ahead for women’s cricket in Asia,” Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to thank the victors with a touching message.
