The much-awaited World Test Championship final between India and Australia finally kicked off on June 7 at The Oval in London. The wait is over for the red-ball cricket fans who were missing the action for the past few months due to the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2023.

Meanwhile, the no.1 Test bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin is dropped from the grand contest. Indian team management might have taken this decision considering the conditions at The Oval which are more favorable to the seamers than the spinners so Rohit Sharma and Co. decided to play the final with only 1 spinner which is Ravindra Jadeja. However, the Men in Blue must be hoping that this decision doesn’t prove wrong.

It's always tough to leave Ashwin: Rohit Sharma

Talking about the match, Rohit won the toss and decided to bowl first and said the overcast conditions will help the fast bowlers get some early wickets. The 36-year-old batter also talked about Ashwin and said that he has always been a match-winner for them but they had to took this harsh decision for the team. Rohit also talked about Ajinkya Rahane, who is making his comeback in the squad after a year, and said that he brings a lot of experience to the team.

“We are going to bowl. Just the conditions and also the weather being overcast. I don't think the pitch will change too much. You have to play good cricket and come out on top. Four seamers and one spinner. The spinner is Jadeja. It's always tough (to leave Ashwin), he's been a match-winner for us over the course of so many years. But you got to do the things that are needed for the team and eventually, we came up with that decision. He (Rahane) brings a lot of experience, he's played 80-odd Test matches and he's done well for the team. He's been out for a while but I don't think the experience that he has can change all of that.” Rohit said after the toss.
