The World Cup is around the corner, teams are gearing up for the marquee event. Australia who were playing India in a three-match ODI series. They lost the series 2-1 against the Men in Blue. Ashton Agar who has been in the 15-man squad for the 2023 World Cup has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Agar is yet to recover from the injury that ruled him out of the recent ODI series against South Africa. He played the first match against the Proteas. The Aussies already have some players missing from the squad with Travis Head already out injured.

They are expected to announce the final 15-man squad for the World Cup squad on Thursday. There are players who did not get a chance in the provisional squad for the World Cup but can replace the all-rounder in the final list of players.

Three possible replacement of Ashton Agar

Marnus Labuschagne is the first name that might come on the list. He has grabbed his opportunity in South Africa and recently concluded the India ODI series. Till now he has scored 349 runs at 58.16 and a strike rate of 93.56. The batter has been in sensational form in recent times since his snub from the provisional World Cup squad.

Another name that adds to the list is young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has been impressive for Australia in his short international career so far. He picked up four wickets and conceded just 31 runs against South Africa. The five-time champions would need to have two attacking leg-spinners when required.

Matt Short can be another name that can replace Agar. He is a good batter and can be a valuable off-spin bowler in Indian conditions. He can bat in the top order, can add power in the middle order as well, and has shown great control with the ball in the first ODI against India.

Travis Head is already set to miss the first half of the World Cup. The Kangaroos will be against India at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium for their World Cup opener.
