‘Asia Cup me dekhte hai’ - Fans react as Pakistan clean sweep Afghanistan in 3-0 in ODIs

The Pakistan cricket team totally outplayed the Afghanistan side in the three-match ODI series by 3-0, apart from the nail-biting second ODI. There was not any resistance shown by the Afghan side in the limited-overs series. The Babar Azam-led side clean-swept with ease at the R Premdada Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was a terrific bowling performance by Pakistan as they clean bowled Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side for 209 runs while chasing the target of 269 runs. 

Pakistani leg spinner Shadab Khan picked up three wickets. Before that, in the first innings, star wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan scored 67 off 79 balls. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan's side has now reclaimed No. 1 in the ICC ODI rankings after this series win, as they reached this position in May 2023.

Whereas at the start of the play, Pakistan lost both their openers, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq early on as Babar and Rizwan together added 110 runs partnership for the third wicket. The Afghanistani side fought back in the middle overs as they dismissed Azam for 60 (86) but lost control in slog overs. 

Pakistan bowlers shined in the ODI series against Afghanistan- 

Mohammad Nawaz and Agha Salman remained not out as they scored 30* (25) and 38* (31) as they posted 268 runs with the loss of eight wickets in the 50 overs. In reply Afghanistan side although having a steady start lost the wicket of the star batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the fifth over of the innings for 5 (15).

Although there were a couple of handy knocks in between in the middle order Riaz Hassan and  Shahidullah tried to hold the innings with their 34 (66) and 37 (65) respectively. Later it was not enough as Pakistani bowler totally outshined the opposition Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz and  Faheem Ashraf together picked two wickets each. 

One positive that Afghanistan can take from this game was Mujeeb Ur Rahman's batting performance as he scored 64 runs in 37 balls with five sixes and the same number of boundaries while batting at the ninth position in the innings.

Now both sides will be moving for the upcoming challenges as the Asia Cup 2023 will be starting from August 30. The Pakistan side will play their most anticipated match on September 2 against India in Sri Lanka, The continental championship is hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
