The women's T20 tournament at the 2023 Asian Games has been marked by unpredictability due to persistent rain interruptions. This has also affected the match outcomes. The rain saw arch-rivals India and Pakistan women make their way into the semi-finals of the competition. In the Pakistan vs. Indonesia clash, rain led to the game's abandonment.

Meanwhile, India faced Malaysia, but rain curtailed proceedings. According to Asian Games rules, if a knockout game is affected by rain and abandoned, the team with the higher ICC ranking or the top-seeded side progresses further in the competition. These weather-related disruptions have added an element of uncertainty to the tournament, influencing the semi-final line-up.

Men’s event to start on October 3

The schedule for the men's cricket competition at the Asian Games 2022 has been released, with teams vying for quarter-final berths at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou. India, based on their high ICC ranking, has already secured a spot in the quarter-finals. India's first quarter-final is set for October 3, with their opponent yet to be determined. It will be one of the three qualifiers from the event that will face them. A victory in the quarter-finals would see India advance to the semis. They would face one of the victorious teams from the previous round.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the Indian squad at the Asian Games 2022. The side will be featuring several promising domestic talents like Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Jitesh Sharma. India's formidable squad, despite having only one scheduled match, makes them the favourites. It is more likely that the team will advance to the tournament's final on October 7th.

The Indian captain, in particular, has showcased excellent form, recently scoring a brilliant fifty against Australia in the ongoing ODI series held at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on September 22. With such talent and promising performances, India's prospects in the Asian Games cricket competition appear promising as they aim to secure top honours.
