India won the gold medal in the Asian Games final after the match did not have any result due to the interruption of rain. The Indian cricket team was handed the gold medal due to a pre-decided rule in the event. In fact, with the same rule, all the top teams like India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Bangladesh got a bye from the group stage matches.
In the quarterfinal, India defeated Nepal by 23 runs and entered the semifinal. Against Bangladesh, India won the semifinal against Bangladesh by 9 wickets, chasing a minimal target of 97 runs. India won the match with 64 balls to spare and entered the final in style. Afghanistan made it to the final after beating Pakistan in a thrilling encounter. In Hangzhou, there was rain throughout the day of the final.
The final was to be played between India and Afghanistan in Hangzhou. Before the gold medal match, the bronze medal match took place between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Even the match for the third place was interrupted by rain, as the match was shortened to 5 overs per side, in which Bangladesh defeated Pakistan to clinch the bronze medal. After the match, India took on Afghanistan.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a two-paced wicket, India restricted Afghanistan to 115 runs after 18.2 overs. Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Shahbaz Ahmed, and R Sai Kishore bowled well. But the match was stopped due to rain and never took off after it. Eventually, it had no result as the rain did not stop.
India was given the gold medal following the conclusion of the match. Before the tournament, it was decided that the seeding would play a key role. It was seedings that played a key role in the teams getting a bye earlier in the tournament. As India was a better seeded team in T20Is, India was given the gold medal. Afghanistan being the 10th ranked team in T20Is got them the silver medal.
