As for the game, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first in overcast conditions. This was a brilliant strategy because the pitch had some grass coverage. However, fans were angry when Ravichandran Ashwin was left out of the playing XI.

The Indian bowlers got an early breakthrough with Mohammed Siraj sending back Usman Khawaja for a 10-ball duck. After his wicket, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne got Australia back in the game with a partnership of 69 runs.

Warner was looking dangerous in the middle with some aggressive strokes but lost his wicket to Shardul Thakur just at the brink of lunch. He scored 43 runs in 60 balls, which included eight boundaries in his stay.

Labuschane also could not hold on for long as he lost his wicket to Mohammed Shami right after lunch. The pacer was at his absolute best as he uprooted his stumps with a brilliant full-length delivery that slightly moved outside the line.

Travis Head then took the responsibility of getting quick runs for the Kangaroos as he was well-supported by Steve Smith. The left-handed batter kept the boundaries in check as he scored a quickfire century. The short ball did trouble him throughout the game but the Indian bowlers failed to capitalize on it. The Men in Blue will look to get rid of him at the earliest.
