The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) are locking horns with the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2nd qualifier of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26.
Meanwhile, GT’s star young opener Shubman Gill smashed his 3rd century of the season, however, this hundred will be remembered by all cricket fans as he hit this in the crucial stage of the season. Gill completed his century after facing only 49 balls, however, he didn’t stop after it smashed 129 runs off just 60 deliveries, which included 7 fours and 10 sixes.
Gill had scored 722 runs in 15 games before the Qualifier Two encounter, averaging an amazing 55.54 and having a remarkable strike rate of 149.17. Notably, in the previous two league games against SRH and RCB, he had scored back-to-back hundreds. Gill was pursuing Du Plessis, who had also had an incredible IPL season, closely with his two centuries and four half-centuries this season.
Shubman Gill continued his brilliant form
In 14 IPL 2023 games, Du Plessis scored 730 runs. To top Du Plessis’ total, Gill only needed nine runs, which he did with relative ease. Gill started off the game by taking a single off Jason Behrendorff’s bowling. Green’s next over was bowled, and he followed it up with a boundary and a three before taking a single, surpassing Du Plessis’ score.
A tribute to Gill’s remarkable hitting abilities and consistency throughout the season was his success in winning the Orange Cap. He was an essential member of the team, thanks to his capacity to score a lot of points and make a big difference in how successful GT was. Gill’s efforts during the competition only grew in prominence, solidifying his status as one of the most promising young players in the league.
Gill would be determined to carry on his good run and lead GT to victory in the playoffs with the Orange Cap now on his head. The remainder of the IPL 2023 season will feature him as a vital player to watch out for due to his great batting ability, poise, and technique.
