Following an eight-wicket loss in the last match on Sunday, 13 August, India suffered a T20I series defeat against West Indies. The setback has cast doubt on India's preparations for the forthcoming ODI Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023, while head coach Rahul Dravid has stated that they would have a 'different' side for that competition.

India were denied a historic come-from-behind when they were defeated in the series decider. India, captained by Hardik Pandya, fielded a younger team due to the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, who have been out of T20I action since the last T20 World Cup.

A lot of learnings for us in this series: Rahul Dravid

Dravid said, "It is a young team and a developing team so there are going to be times when we have our ups and downs. Of course, we are disappointed…credit to the West Indies as they are a good T20 side and playing in their home conditions they play particularly well."

The coach further added, "A lot of learnings for us in this series. But, credit to the West Indies, they are a good T20I side, they played very good cricket in their home conditions. Good luck to them." "Not much to worry about the 2023 World Cup in India. Our ODI team is really different from the squad we had here. But going forward we've got to look at certain area."

He further added, "Finding depth in our batting is an area that we are trying to address and do as best as we possibly can. But that's certainly an area that we need to look at, how we can not weaken our bowling attack but have a certain depth in our batting that can go deeper."

The stars of the show were opener Brandon King (85*) and Player of the Series Nicholas Pooran (47) as the West Indies successfully chased down India's score of 165/9 with two overs remaining to secure a 3-2 series victory. It was the West Indies' first T20I series victory against India since 2017, while the loss ended India's 11-match unbeaten bilateral series record, as the Asian team suffered their first series defeat in men's T20Is in almost two years.
