Discarded India's opening batter, Prithvi Shaw's debut in England's One Day Cup wasn't ideal in the game against Gloucestershire. Playing for Northamptonshire, he started well with 34 off as many balls. However, Netherlands international and Gloucester player, Paul Van Meekeren bowled a bouncer. As Shaw is a suspect against a rising ball towards his body, he fell on the stumps trying to play a pull shot.
At the time of dismissal, the East Midlands-based team had already lost five wickets for 30 runs. The top and middle-order batters such as Emilio Gay (2), Ricardo Vasconcelos (5), Sam Whiteman (1), Luke Procter (0), and Rob Keogh (2) failed to apply themselves. Ajeet Singh Dale took three wickets in this phase while Tom Price took two. With the wicket of Shaw (34), the Ble Brigade fell into the wilderness as it was the sixth wicket to fall on 54 runs.
This has invited a lot of trolls from fans on Twitter.

Shaw was outdone by the sheer pace and bounce of the Paul van Meekeeran delivery . He is young and will soon learn how to hook the short stuff over the ropes

Same old problem of not been able to deal with bouncers

This shows how Shaw is just not ready to work on his short ball shortcomings

Taking about the game, Shaw's team recovered well although they lost the game in the end. At 54/6, the likes of wicketkeeper Lewis McManus (54) and Tom Taylor (122) helped the team chase down 279 runs. However, the team was bowled out for 255, losing the game by 23 runs.
Prithvi Shaw is the fifth player to play County Cricket this year
Before Shaw, the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire), Arshdeep Singh (Kent), and Navdeep Singh (Worcestershire) also played in England's domestic cricket. Pujara is currently playing while Singh has joined the Indian team for the T20I series against the West Indies. Rahane has taken a break from the game.
Ahead of the tournament, Shaw said that the ongoing One Day Cup will give a chance to express himself.
"It's a great opportunity for me and I'm really thankfully to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here," Shaw was quoted as saying in a media release. "It's going to be amazing I think and I'm really looking forward to it."
The 2018 U19 World Cup winning captain was permitted by the Indian Cricket Board to play in the tournament.
