England Test skipper Ben Stokes has been reportedly spoken to by the team management about his comeback in ODI cricket. Last year, ahead of the South Africa series at home, he decided to retire from the format. Stokes cited too busy calendar behind the decision. However, when the left-hander took the team over the line in the T20 World Cup 2022 final, the discussion around his ODI comeback started to happen.
After the summit clash, the Durham player was asked about the same. In reply, he said that it would be amazing to play in the showpiece event was he wasn't thinking about it at the time.
“… who knows how I might feel towards a World Cup at the time. Going to a World Cup is an amazing thing to do, to represent your country. But at the moment I'm not even thinking about that,” Stokes had said in November last year.
I am retired - Ben Stokes
Ahead of the fifth Test of the Ashes 2023, the Three Lions Test skipper was asked about the same. This time around, the New Zealand-born denied taking back his decision.
"I'm retired," Stokes reiterated, as quoted by the Apex Council.
"I'm going on holiday after this game and that's as far as I'm thinking."
Furthermore, the former Rajasthan Royals player in the IPL mentioned addressing the knee problems that prevented him from bowling.
“It’s something I obviously want to get sorted,” Stokes said.
