New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was spotted taking throwdowns in the nets once again as he continues his recovery after undergoing surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. It will be a big relief for New Zealand fans and management ahead of the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Williamson was injured in the first match of IPL 2023. Since then, he stayed away from cricket continuously. He had jumped up on the deep square leg boundary to catch a shot from Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, and though he saved the six, he landed awkwardly on his right leg causing him to rupture his ACL.
Nice to be back in the nets: Kane Williamson
Williamson posted a short clip of him batting on Instagram on August 1 stating, "Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws." It can be seen in the video that Williamson is playing shots in the nets. Some beautiful shots were also seen from his bat.
The Kiwi batter went to New Zealand in April for surgery, and it was later stated that if he is unable to participate in the World Cup in India, he may still travel with the squad as a mentor. However, in June, it was revealed that the Kiwi skipper had not given up hope of participating in the World Cup and that there was still a chance he might heal in time for the tournament, with New Zealand facing England in Ahmedabad.
He previously stated, "Very much just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment." "I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead, it probably can become a little bit daunting."
The 32-year-old batter has played 94 Tests, 161 ODIs and 87 T20 Internationals in his career so far. He has scored 8124 runs in 164 Test innings at an average of 54.86, 6555 runs in 153 ODIs at an average of 47.85 and 2464 runs in 85 T20 Internationals at an average of 33.3 and a strike rate of 122.89.
