Mumbai Indians, the five-time Indian Premier League champions, are without top pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the current season. Due to a back injury, Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022.
However, Bumrah was now spotted in the stands of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad supporting the Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma's men are currently clashing against Gujarat Titans in the 35th IPL 2023 match. Earlier, Sanjana Ganesan and Jasprit Bumrah attended the Nita Ambani Cultural Centre's ceremonial inauguration as well.
The 29-year-old had back surgery early this year in New Zealand and has been rehabilitating since then. He will miss the whole Indian Premier League in 2023, as well as the Test Championship final against Australia in June.
Bumrah has not played in any cricket matches since withdrawing from India's white-ball series against South Africa in September of last year due to stress in his lower back. He attempted to return in January of this year for the home series against Sri Lanka, but it did not work out due to back issues.
Jasprit Bumarah's Road to Recovery
According to sources, the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, along with the medical team of the Indian Cricket Board, had been treating Bumrah's injury promptly and had proposed surgery as a viable cure. The operation was decided upon by the Indian Cricket Board, in consultation with the National Cricket Academy and Bumrah.
Bumrah's lengthy wait has been frustrating since he has attempted many comebacks after suffering a back injury last August, which stopped him from competing in the Asia Cup. Bumrah was named to India's 20-20 World Cup squad in September despite what appeared to be a minor injury. Bumrah even played in the final two T20Is of the Australia series on September 23 and 25, demonstrating his endurance.
In the meantime, fans have been trolling Bumrah for attending the GT vs MI clash in IPL 2023. 'Bhai maidan mai kab utrega mi ka hal dekha nahi ja raha hai plz comeback," wrote a fan on Twitter.
