After claiming the 16th clean sheet in the ongoing tournament, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea won the golden gloves award for Premiere League 2022-23 season. The Spaniard recorded his 16th clean sheet of the season in United's 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday, claiming the award for the second time. His clean sheet record for the Red Devils this season is the best in the Premier League, but he's not yet an undisputed winner.
Notably, It's been a difficult season for the 32-year-old, whose future has been called into question in recent weeks as the summer transfer window approaches. Despite reports that his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end, the Spaniard has not let this affect his performances this season, and he is allegedly set to sign a new contract with the club.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that there are still three goalkeepers who could equal De Gea's total, which would mean he would have to share the title, but the chances of that happening are small. With three games remaining, Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope, and Alisson Becker all have 13 clean sheets. If De Gea concedes in his final three games and one of the remaining three keepers remains unbeaten, they will tie De Gea.
Where will David De Gea's future sail?
If De Gea wins the Gloden Glove, it will be his second title after winning the same in the 2017-18 season. However, his future at United has lately been called into question, the custodian appears likely to sign a new contract with the club that would see him take a pay cut from his £375,000-a-week salary.
His new contract of roughly £200,000 per week brings him in line with the rest of the United back line, and given his erratic form, great one week and weird the next, it became evident to the player that nobody in Europe would pay him more. However, In terms of goalkeeping, De Gea is a Manchester United legend. He has won every major domestic trophy and was a substitute in Jose Mourinho's 2017 Europa League victory. His 540 appearances for United are the most for any custodian and rank sixth all-time. He will very definitely have surpassed Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville by the time his new contract expires.
Here is how fans react to De Gea's title claim:

— Vay (@itsvay11) May 13, 2023
How's that possible? How can you be bottom for almost every goal keeping stat there is & still win golden glove? Makes me wonder just how bad has he been in games other than those where he's kept clean sheets & is most of it down to Martinez, Varane & Shaw who've been epic

Can’t Allison Ramsdale and pope all reach him if one of them keeps 3 clean sheets and de gea conceded on the next three? pic.twitter.com/b5HcHalIna
