Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah posed for a photo with the former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle at The Oval, England during the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia. Both teams will be entering on Day 2 in the second edition of the WTC Final.

Talking about the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first on Day 1. The Indian bowlers got a dream start as Mohammed Siraj sent Usman Khawaja for a duck at the score of just 2 runs in 3.4 overs. After that, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne took the innings further by adding 69 runs for the second wicket. Warner got out in the 22nd over after scoring 43 runs off 60 balls hitting eight boundaries.

Smith and Head put Australia in dominant position on Day 1

A couple of overs later, Labuschange was also dismissed by Mohammed Shami after scoring 26 runs off 62 balls with three boundaries. After that, Steve Smith and Travis Head took charge of the innings. Both the batter didn’t let any wicket fall for the rest of the day as they put up an unbeaten partnership of 251 runs for the fourth wicket.

Smith is currently five runs away from his century as he is unbeaten on 95 runs off 227 balls hitting 14 boundaries. While on the other hand, Head became the first batter to score a hundred in a WTC final as he is unbeaten on 146 runs off 156 balls with 22 fours and a maximum. Australia finished day 1 with 327 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 85 overs. For India, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur shared a wicket each.

The Aussies already had an upper in the final with their dominant batting performance after losing early wickets on the first day of the WTC final. The Indian Team will be looking for a chance to get rid of Smith and Head early on day 2 to prevent Australia from getting a big score and India have a chance to take a lead in the first innings.
