In the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India beat Australia by innings and 132 runs at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur. India, with the help of ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-wicket haul, restricted visitors to 91 runs in the second innings and won the match comfortably.

Earlier, Indian batters outplayed an inexperienced Australian bowling line-up and posted a mammoth total of 400 runs in the first innings. Captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant century while all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel smashed a well-made half-century. Pacer Mohammed Shami also hammered the Aussies and scored a furious 37 runs off 47 balls with the help of three 6s and two 4s.

On the day-1 of the game, Australia led by Pat Cummins, won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the decision didn’t go well as the batters failed to counter Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin and got bowled out for 177 runs. After being pushed back by the host, Visitors failed to recover and, eventually, lost the match.
