Pakistan have called up backups, for pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, as their participation in the rest of the Asia Cup is in doubt after they picked up major injuries during the Super Four game against India in Colombo over Sunday and Monday.

The young pace duo of Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been added to the squad. Rauf did not take part in the Reserve Day of Pakistan’s Super Four match against India. Naseem, on the other hand, went off in the 49th over of the Indian innings after injuring his bowling arm shoulder.

This is only a precautionary measure keeping in mind the fitness and well-being of the players: Pakistan Cricket Board

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media statement said, "This is only a precautionary measure keeping in mind the fitness and well-being of the players ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next month. Haris and Naseem will continue to remain under the observation of the team's medical panel. The team management will only request replacement from the ACC technical committee if Naseem or Haris are ruled out for the next seven days."

Both the pacers did not even come out to bat in the match. Pakistan Cricket does not want to take risks with two of their premium pacers, with the World Cup around the corner. Both Dahani and Zaman have played international cricket for Pakistan after being impressive for the Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars respectively in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

India after resuming from an overnight 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs. Both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stitched a 233-run partnership. They posted a massive 356-2 on the back of unbeaten centuries by both batters. Pakistan were never in the game in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals, and were bowled out to 128 runs in 32 overs. Their net run, which is currently at -1.892 also took a massive hit. Their last and final Super Four match is against Dasun Shanaka’s Sri Lanka on Thursday, September 14 in Colombo.
