Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has come a long way from making his international debut in 2007 to leading the Men in Blue in all three formats. Rohit made his international debut in the T20I format during the inaugural edition of the 20-20 World Cup in 2007 in a league-stage match against England.
Interestingly, the then 20-year-old batter couldn’t get to bat in that match but impressed a lot of fans by producing magnificent fielding skills as he took a flying catch which helped the team to win the match by 18 runs. Rohit played in the middle order during his initial days which didn’t allow him to show his potential to the world.
However, in the Champions Trophy 2013, former legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni decided to try a new opening pair and sent Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan to open the innings since then Rohit never looked back and became India’s one of the greatest opening batters of all time. Rohit achieved multiple milestones while opening the innings, especially in the ODI format as he is the only batter to score 3 double centuries in the white ball format.
Rohit Sharma's brilliant record in international cricket
Rohit has played 243 ODI matches and scored 9825 runs so far at an impressive average of 48.63 which included 48 half-centuries and 30 centuries. He also has an outstanding record in the shortest format as well. He has played 148 T20I matches so far in his career and scored 3853 runs at an average of 31.32 which included 29 fifties and 4 hundreds.
The 36-year-old batter made his Test debut in 2013 and has played 50 matches so far while scoring 3437 runs at an average of 45.22. He has smashed 14 half-centuries and 9 tons so far in the longest format. Meanwhile, the Indian team are all set to tour West Indies for 2 Test, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is match series. However, it is being reported that Rohit might get rested for the upcoming Test series.
