Former President of the Indian Cricket Board, Sourav Ganguly will now be provided the Z Plus security by the government of West Bengal.

Former Indian skipper and the ex-President of the Indian Cricket Board, Sourav Ganguly will now be provided the Z Plus security by the government of West Bengal. The decision was taken following the expiry of the tenure of the Y Plus category provided to him by the government earlier.

"As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly's security cordon to Z category," a senior official said as quoted by The Tribune. The official further added that the former cricketer will have 8 to 10 police personnel guarding him, as per the new security arrangement.

Under the Y Under the Y category security cover, Ganguly used to get three policemen from the Special Branch in his cordon and the same number of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence in Kolkata. The representatives of the state secretariat reached Ganguly's Behala office on Tuesday where they held a meeting with officers from Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar and the local police station.

"Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Capitals and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that day," the official said.

West Bengal CM and Governer get the Z plus security

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, Governor CV Ananda Bose and Trinamool Congress MP and national secretary Abhishek Banerjee get Z Plus security while ministers such as Firhad Hakim and Moloy Ghatak have been provided with Z category security in the state. While BJP's West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar is also provided with Z Plus security cover along with CISF protection.

Ganguly is currently with Delhi Capitals (DC) as a mentor in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. However, DC did not have a great season as they become the first team to get knocked out of the race of the playoffs. They went on to lose their first five matches consecutively and after that, they havenโ€™t been able to make a comeback in the tournament. DC currently stand in the 10th position at the points table with four wins out of the 12 matches with two games still left.
