Indian cricket is set to pay a staggering tax of 963 crores INR on behalf of the apex cricket body for the 2023 World Cup to the Indian government. Normally, the World Cup schedules get disclosed at least a year before by the apex body of cricket, but this time it is delayed until the official cricket board in India receives the necessary government of India clearances. This addresses one of the most important difficulties, which is how to get the tournament tax-exempt.

The tax exemption has been part of the host agreement that the Indian Cricket Board signed with the global governing body in 2014. At that time, India was awarded the hosting rights of three major big tournaments: the 2016 20-20 World Cup, and the 2018 Champions Trophy (later changed to the 2021 T20 World Cup, all matches were played in UAE and Oman because of Covid 19) and 2023 World Cup. As per the agreement, the Indian Cricket Board is bound to help the apex cricket body to get tax exemptions.

India set to host the entire tournament for the first time

Meanwhile, talking about the World Cup, the competition will start on October 5, with 12 cities selected to host the major event. Similar to the 2019 edition, the 10-team league will be played over 46 days with a total of 48 matches.

The tournament will take place in India for the fourth time, however, this would be the first time that it will be entirely held in India. Earlier, Pakistan and India jointly hosted the event in 1987, and Sri Lanka and Pakistan co-hosted with India in 1996. In 2011, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India got split hosting duties. In 2031, India is also slated to host the competition, however, it will be jointly hosted with Bangladesh.

The Indian team have started preparing for the mega event as they are clashing against the Australian team in the three-match ODI series. The Men in Blue won the first comprehensively by 5 wickets. But, the Kangaroos bounced back brilliantly in the second match as they defeated India by 10 wickets. The third match of the series will be played on Wednesday, March 22.
