With India facing Pakistan in the Super 4 of the Asia Cup 2023, the fans were elated to see KL Rahul making a comeback to the Indian side after almost 6 months as he sustained a calf injury during an IPL match of Lucknow Super Giants taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore. Initially, the prolific batter was inducted into the Asia Cup squad and joined the team after Indiaโ€™s group-stage match in the tournament.

After the Indian team made a terrific start batting first, India lost both the openers in quick successions but after that, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli tried steadying the ship but the rain interrupted the match. Meanwhile, in his 17 runs the star India batter completed his 2000 international runs in One Day. Over the years, Rahul has been one of the most essential clogs in the wheel for the Indian ODI setup considering his ability to bat up the order as well as in the middle order.

The talismanic batter has scored five centuries in their career so far in the limited overs format and has also played the role of a wicketkeeper batter which in modern-day cricket is considered to be one of the best options for team combination wise. The swashbuckling India batter even averages more than 45 in ODIs. Let us now look at how Twitter has reacted to this momentous feat from the wicket-keeper batter;

India got off to a flier on a batting-friendly condition

In a high-stakes cricket clash between India and Pakistan, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a blazing start for India in the 2023 Asia Cup. They aggressively batted through the first ten overs, thwarting Pakistan's pace attack, and went on to build a century-opening partnership within just 14 overs. Gill reached his fifty in 37 balls, marking his second consecutive half-century in the 50-over format, while Rohit achieved his fifty in 42 balls with an impressive six.

However, Pakistan fought back when Shadab Khan dismissed Rohit Sharma, who had scored 56 runs off 49 deliveries. Gill was the next to fall, getting dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi after contributing 58 runs off 52 balls with ten boundaries. The rain disrupted the first encounter between the teams, prompting the Asian Cricket Council to allocate a reserve day for this critical match due to the possibility of further rain interruptions.
