India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin now has more five-wicket hauls than England's James Anderson. The latter has made the record of playing most Tests as fast bowlers, i.e 181. In this, he has 32 five-wicket hauls and 688 wickets to his name. Ahead of India's first Test against the West Indies, Ashwin had the same number of five-wicket hauls. In the game, he took back-to-back five-wicket hauls.

With this, the two-time World Champion has gone past former Sri Lanka left-arm spinner Rangana Herath. Notably, both Ashwin and Herath have played 93 Tests each and have 34 five-wicket hauls. The former retired from the game in 2018. If Ashwin gets another five-wicket haul, he will equal the record of former India Test skipper and head coach, Anil Kumble. However, if the former takes a 10-wicket haul, he will get past Kumble's eight 10-wicket hauls.

Only Sir Richard Hadlee (36 five-wicket hauls and nine 10-wicket hauls), Late Shane Warne (37 five-wicket hauls and ten 10-wicket hauls), and Muttiah Muralitharan (67 five-wicket hauls and 22 ten-wicket hauls) are ahead of Ashwin. The five and ten-wicket hauls of Hadlee and Warne might be broken by Ashwin but there is no chance that he will break Murali's record.

In fact, it is highly likely that the record of the former Sri Lanka international will stay put.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests for India

Meanwhile, a few months back, he broke the record of former India skipper Kapil Dev's 434 wickets. Currently, the Tamil Nadu player, Ashwin is close to 500 wickets as he is only 14 wickets away. He is expected to reach a bit closer in the second and the last Test, starting July 20.

Apart from this, India will play two Tests in South Africa in December this year and January next year. Right after this, the Asian side will host England for five Tests. Both series will be part of India's WTC cycle 2023-25. The team would desperately want to win a Test series in South Africa, a feat never achieved before.
