India after their loss against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023, will now face the Aussies in the five-match T20I series. The first T20I will take place at the Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Thursday, November 23. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are the only players who will be playing in the bilateral series. The former will be captaining the side for the first time. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the vice-captain in the first three matches and then Shreyas Iyer will join the side for the last two matches as vice-captain.
There have been players who have missed the squad with the likes of Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma. These players have performed sensationally in the domestic circuits. The fans have raised questions over not selecting these players and also some of the players who are part of the squad should not have been.
India and Australia have rested all the senior players who were part of the World Cup squad. Mathew Wade will be the skipper for the Aussies in the series. In the article, we will be looking at the players who got lucky in the T20I series against the Kangaroos in India.
3 players who were lucky to be picked in India's squad for the Australia T20I series
3. Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar has been a decent all-rounder for India. He performed decently for the Men in Blue whenever he was given a chance. The test innings against Australia in their home along with Shardul Thakur was brilliant and led India to the victory. The all-rounder has been out of the team majorly with injuries and his inconsistency as well. Sundar has been in and out of the team and in recent times he was called to the Asia Cup 2023 final as a replacement of Axar Patel.
2. Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan conceded 50+ runs in a clash against Hong Kong in the 2022 Asia Cup and since that, he was not picked for the T20 World Cup or any other series. The bowler failed to impress in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing 9 games for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and picked 8 wickets at an economy of 9.75. Though he was picked for the T20I series in the West Indies he failed to deliver in the series. Now he has been in the squad for the Aussie T20I series as well which the fans did not like.
1. Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma has been the surprising pick in the T20I squad ahead of Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batter has so far made 12 appearances for Punjab Kings (PBKS), in which he scored 234 runs from 10 innings. Jitesh was part of the Indian team in the Asian Games that won the gold medal. He did not look to score runs and had a poor run in the keeping technique as well. The fans were unhappy with his selection and not picking Samson in the squad for the upcoming series.
