India recently announced its squad for the series against England in Tests. There were many players who were set to be picked and got picked. Most of the choices were obvious. But there were a couple of surprising picks that got the attention of the fans. The major talking point of the selection was the call-up for Dhruv Jurel, which was highly unexpected. It made the fans wonder as to what skills the youngster possesses that has made the selectors to look for them.

Likeweise, some of the players have missed out on selection that have been questioned by the fans. It continues to be a mystery as to why some of the players have been snubbed by the Indian Cricket Board in the last few months. The likes of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and some others have not been picked in the squad, which has not gone well with their fans. Taking to social media platforms like X, Instagram, and others, the fans have expressed their disappointment over the same.

The time has come to look at the players who should have gotten maiden Test call-up in series against England along with Dhruv Jurel.

3. Vidwath Kaverappa

India

Vidwath Kaverappa has been doing well in domestic cricket for Karnataka. The right-arm medium pacer can shine at the highest level. Even in the India A tours, he has proved himself. He is a highly skilled pacer with an ability to swing the ball. It makes him a very good asset for the team that lacks the swing bowling pacers. It does not just add a different variety to the attack but can help India to have someone who can be accurate with his lines and lengths.

It is worth noting that Kaverappa is still young and can be the torchbearer of the Indian pace attack in the upcoming days. India lacks bowlers who are fit and can be trusted to last longer in the longest format of the game. Kaverappa is not a pacer prone to injuries. He can swing the new ball well. In the recent tours with India A, he shined with the ball and impressed fans with his pace bowling. However, the selectors thought his time was not yet up for a Test call-up.

2. Sarfaraz Khan

India

Sarfaraz Khan has a terrific record in domestic cricket for Mumbai. In the last 4-5 seasons, he has been scoring runs for fun quite literally. However, he has managed to get a call-up for the Indian team only once. It has been highly surprising that a batter who can score big hundreds and averages over 69 in FC cricket has not been able to even get a Test call-up at home conditions. His consistency is second to none and can bat in different positions in the middle order for India.

Just after the selection of the squad against England, Khan has proved his worth yet again. In the ongoing practice match against the England Lions, Khan notched up a quickfire 96(110), which has made the headlines again. It has put the question on the process of selection of the selectors. Sarfaraz is an aggressive batter and has saved his side from several collapses. One cannot help but think that Sarfaraz might have been treated unfairly by the selectors for a long time.

1. Rajat Patidar

India

Rajat Patidar has been a rising star in the Indian cricket. In the IPL, he has already made a name for himself among the fans of RCB. In the Eliminator game against LSG in the IPL 2022, Rajat scored a fabulous ton and became one of the fewest Indian uncapped batters to score a hundred in the IPL knockouts. The top-order batter has not just been able to impress everyone with his batting in the shorter formats but has also been able to do it in the longer formats.

For his efforts, Patidar got an ODI debut against South Africa last year. However, Patidar is yet to get a call-up in Tests. As a response to the selectors, Rajat scored an aggressive hundred in the ongoing practice match against the England Lions. Patidar probably deserved the chance a lot because there has been a hole in Indian Test batting at number 3 and there has not been a like-to-like replacement for Pujara as a designated batter at the position.
