With every passing year, the league is getting increasingly popular across the globe. The viewership is getting better with every season. Most players in the world want to take part in the league just to experience the intensity and grandeur of the league. The fans cheer players and teams very well irrespective of the teams in which players involve. The legacy of the league lies in how well the players help each other to attain the eventual glory of winning the trophy. But some players have not been able to lift the trophy even once despite playing a lot.

Here are 5 such players who have never won an IPL trophy to date.

5. Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag is one of the legends of the league. In the earlier part of the tournament, Sehwag took the tournament in storm with his aggressive batting. When batting was the most difficult in the late 2000s and the early 2010s, sehwag was way ahead of others in terms of strike rate. Even today, Sehwag has one of the best batting strike rates for a batter in the league. Sehwag played 7 seasons in the league and scored more than 2500 runs. Yet, he could not win a trophy in a single edition of the league. In the past, Sehwag has expressed his disappointment over it.

The star batter played 5 seasons with Delhi Daredevils (Known to be Delhi Capitals since 2019). From 2008 to 2012, Sehwag was in the franchise. in the period, theri best result was entering the semifinal of the tournament. They achieved it thrice in the first 5 years. In fact, Delhi saw a huge downfall after Sehwag left them. for the last 2 seasons, sehwag played in Punjab Kings. In 2013 and 2014, Sehwag represented PBKS. In 2014, Sehwag entered his first and only IPL final. PBKS lost to KKR in the final despite dominating the league stage of the tournament in the 7th edition.

4. Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn was one of the best bolwers in the league for a long time. The South African pacer was at the peak of his powers in the early 2010s. In the period, Steyn was one of the best pacers in the league. He was arguably the best pacer along with Lasith Malinga in the period. He was in the league of Malinga and Sunil Narine in the period. At his prime, Sten was close to being unplayable. Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad saw the best version of Steyn perform for them. When on song, Steyn used to operate at an extreme pace and could move the ball away from the right handers.

In the PP overs, Steyn possessed swing to threaten the batters. He could use his seam position well to tackle the batters on pace friendly wicket. With the old ball, Steyn had a terrific yorker which had no answers by the batters more often than not. Steyn claimed close to 100 wickets in the league at an average of around 25, at an economy rate of under 7 units. These are great stats for a bowler. Apart from Deccan and SRH, Steyn played for RCB as well. Unfortunately, he could win an IPL in his career which lasted for about 13 seasons in the history of the league.

3. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is one of the best players the league has ever seen. The aggressive batter was responsible for the change in mindset of the batters. In the first three seasons, Gayle played for KKR and did not have a great success. It was in the IPL 2011 that RCB recalled Gayle as the replacement of an injured Dirk Nannes. The rest as they is history, as the world saw the beast version of Gayle. At his prime from 2011 to 2015, Gayle was an unstoppable entity with the bat. Particularly in 2011, 2012, and 2013, Gayle had insane numbers as a batter.

No player in the history of the league has as crazy stats at their prime as Gayle as far as batting is concerned. Gayle played for 3 franchises in the league. From 2011 to 2017, the universe boss played for RCB. From 2018 to 2021, the West Indian batter played for PBKS. He gave his everything as a player to the each franchise he played. Unfortunately, he could not win a trophy in any season. Whenever he had a great season, other players in the side somehow found their ways to spoil the efforts of the giant. He ended his IPL career in 2021 without winning a trophy.

2. Ab De Villiers

AB De Villiers

Ab De Villiers is arguably the best middle order batter in the history of the league. Ever since he joined RCB in 2011, the fortunes of both RCB and De Villiers changed. While De Villiers attained popularity with the increasing fanbase of the side, RCB got the services of the legend of the league. At his best, De Villiers was unstoppable as a batter. The South African batter is one of the best middle order batters in the league and arguably the best batter in the history of the league. As a finisher, De Villiers hardly had a season where he failed. His best performances came for RCB.

In 2009, De Villiers played for Delhi Daredevils. He was picked by RCB in 2011 and played in the same team till 2021. His prime lasted for 11 long years, where he won numerous games for his team. At hsi absolute best in the mid 2010s, De Villiers came close to winning the trophy in two consecutive seasons. In both the seasons, De Villiers was sensational as a batter. Unfortunately, RCB ended in third and second places in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Along with Virat Kohli, the South African batter could not win the trophy for RCB despite giving their everything for the franchise.

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the most popular players in the league. More importantly, he is one of the best players in the league. He has been playing in the league since 2008. Virat has played in the IPL for only one franchise. The star batter has represented RCB in 16 consecutive seasons, which is a record for any player in the league. He is likely to play for the same side till his retirement. Yet, Virat has not been able to win the title in the biggest cricket league even once. The streak holds true even today and he has not been able to erase the unwanted record despite his best abilities as a batter.

In fact, Kohli tried his hand as a captain as well. From 2013 to 2021, Virat was the captain of the side. In the period, RCB reached a final once, yet could not win the title. in 2016, the world witnessed arguably the greatest version of a batter in the history of the league. In the edition, Virat scored 973 runs in 16 innings at an average of over 81, at a strike rate of over 152, including 4 hundreds and 7 fifty plus scores. Despite doing everything in his capacity, Virat (and RCB) has not been able to win the trophy. The star cricketer still aims every year to break the jinx and win an IPL trophy for himself and the team.
