The reason behind this being, Mumbai Indians had named Hardik Pandya as the skipper of the side for the IPL 2024 season.

Shubman Gill has already been named the skipper of the side ahead of the new season. The IPL 2022 winners have the highest budget as the teams sit down for the IPL Mini Auctions 2024. Dubai is set to host the event this coming Tuesday the 19th of December 2023.
South African legend gives his view on negative reaction towards Hardik Pandya –
Former South African star AB De Villiers has thrown his support behind Hardik Pandya. The latter has come under fire from Mumbai Indian cricket fans after he was named the skipper for the new season. Many fans feel that Rohit Sharma’s unceremonious sacking is a huge insult to the 36-year-old. *
Taking to his YouTube channel, the 39-year-old said “And I think I find it quite strange that the reaction was pretty negative. I have been reading posts that said Mumbai Indians social platform lost like 1 million followers and people are upset.”
Hardik Pandya also found a backer in AB De Villiers over his recent achievements as captain of Gujarat Titans. “You should be happy about him coming back. I know he played two IPL seasons at Gujarat Titans and won a trophy. They made the final in another. Now he wants to comeback as a more experienced player. A more experienced captain”
The former RCB legend also said “So I think the fans should give him a bit of boost, welcome him back in the Mumbai Indians camp. I’m pretty sure if he lifts the trophy with the rest of the team, the fans aren’t going to have a problem with that”.
