The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai. All the teams have done their retention process and released and retained the players they needed to trade in and out. Romario Shepherd was traded to Mumbai Indians (MI) from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the retention deadline for his existing fee of 50 lakh.
In a trade, LSG sent pacer Avesh Khan to Rajasthan Rajasthan (RR) in exchange for batter Devdutt Padikkal. Star all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed was transferred from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Mayank Dagar was traded from the SRH to the RCB. According to the reports Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya is set to join Mumbai Indians (MI).
The former England skipper Joe Root, has withdrawn from the IPL 2024 auction. Root played only three matches for Rajasthan Royals (RR) after being picked for INR 1 crore in the 2023 auction. The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have released their star all-rounder Ben Stokes as the English text captain will undergo knee surgery. They have also released Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala, and Ambati Rayudu who has now retired from cricket. Joe Root, the England and Rajasthan Royals batter, has withdrawn from the IPL 2024 auction. Delhi Capitals have retained their opener Prithvi Shaw for the 2024 season. Rishabh Pant is set to make a comeback in the IPL 2024.

Kolkata Knight Riders' star all-rounder Shardul Thakur, has also been released. They have also brought back Gautam Gambhir as a mentor to their team. Each team will be allotted a 100 crore budget to develop their squad for the 2024 season. This represents a 5 crore increase over last season's purse of 95 crore.
Star Sports is set to telecast a special show on IPL 2024 retention. The live program will be telecast on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 1 Hindi from 4 PM to 6 PM IST. As per the reports, the live streaming will also be shown in Jio Cinema for the OTT.
