Shakib-al-Hasan is considered to be the best all-rounder of contemporary times in all three formats. He is still considered the number-one ranked all-rounder in both the ODI and T20I formats. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that he has been the torch bearer of Bangladesh cricket across the world on the back of his all-round abilities.

In recent times, the career of this prodigious all-rounder has been marred with controversies both on and off the field. In the recently concluded 2023 ODI Cricket World, Shakib became a topic of discussion with the Timed-Out controversy where he got Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews timed out after appealing for it. It was the first-ever Timed-Out in the history of International cricket.

Recently, Shakib-al-Hasan again found himself in the wings of controversy when a video of him went viral on the Internet where he was seen slapping a fan while he was trying to get his attention.

It is being said that the incident took place during the recently concluded elections in Bangladesh. Upon arriving to cast his vote, the Bangladesh star found himself surrounded by fans, and the situation escalated when a fan attempted to grab him from behind. In response, Shakib chose to use a slap to manage the unfolding situation. Here is the viral video:

Shakib-al-Hasan’s new innings

Shakib is contesting the elections from the currently ruling Awami League party and he also secured a substantial victory over his rival by a margin exceeding 150,000 votes in his constituency located in the western town of Magura. Abu Naser Beg, the district's chief administrator, described it as a landslide victory.

The cricketer, who ran as a candidate for the ruling Awami League party led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has not provided an immediate comment. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is widely anticipated to secure a fifth term in power, especially after the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) opted to boycott the vote.

The cricketer is currently on a break from his cricketing duties to focus on his political ambitions. While the cricketer has not given an official statement on his retirement, it seems obvious that the World’s biggest all-format all-rounder is currently in the last stages of his international career.
