The Cricket Governing Body has announced the team for the ODI team of the year 2023. The 2023 season has been a memorable one for many along with some heartbreak moments as well. The most number of players that have been in the combined squad is from India with 6 players getting in the side. There have been 2 Australians, 2 South Africans one New Zealander.
Rohit Sharma has been named as the captain as he continued to impress them with his great leadership and batting abilities. He became the first captain to win 10 games in a row. Shubman Gill has also been named in the side, as he was the star performer for the side in the 50-over. He was the highest run-scorer in the 2023 year as he finished with 1584 runs while no other player was able to reach it in the particular calendar year.
Travis Head has also been named as the left-handed opener and was one the crucial members for Australia that won their 6th ODI World Cup beating India in India as he scored a hundred in the final of the tournament. Virat Kohli had a sensational 2023 year as he surpassed several records and became the Man of the Tournament in the ODI World Cup 2023 for his sensational display in the competition.
Players missing out on the ODI team of the year
Daryl Mitchell is probably the batter for New Zealand who had a sensational year scoring two hundred in the World Cup with one in the semi-final. Wicket-keeper Heinrich Klassen also got a nod in the side for his destructive brand of cricket. All-rounder Marco Jensen has also been named in the squad. Adam Zampa, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami are the bowlers that have been named.
Pat Cummins, is the big name that has missed out on the side. The World Cup-winning captain had a good year but unfortunately was left out of the team of the year. Another big miss in the side was Jasprit Bumrah who was a crucial bowler for India to qualify for the final and Shreyas Iyer as well who has been the best batter for the side in the No.4 position for the side.
