Nepal qualifies for T20 World Cup

Nepal is one of the associated cricketing nations that have grown in recent years. Nepal on Thursday, made a historic achievement as the team qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup. They defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Kathmandu. Alongside that Oman has also qualified for the mega event that is to be held in the West Indies and USA. Both teams are in the final of the Asian qualification round of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

Nepal's match was hosted at the Mulpani Cricket Stadium. The stadium has a capacity of 13,000 but fans managed to climb hills and rooftops to witness the game some of the spectators watched the match from their houses as well. Nepal fans were very happy as this is their second big tournament after they qualified for the Asia Cup 2023. 

Fans erupted in joy after the winning runs as this was the first time Nepal have qualified for the marquee tournament. The players and coaches are in a happy mood after their win. They would like to win the qualification final against Oman as well. Oman defeated Baharin by ten wickets.

All-round show from Nepal cricketers

UAE won the toss and elected to bat first. Vriitya Aravind was the only player to score a fifty and all the other batters failed in front of the spinners Kushal Malla and Sandeep Lamichane. The former picked three wickets and the leg-spinner took 2 wickets, they were able to score 134/9 in their 20 overs. 

In response, Nepal got off to a decent start. Wicket-keeper batter Aasif Sheikh and skipper Rohit Paudel stitched a partnership of 68 runs as they sealed their team through to the qualification. The former scored an unbeaten 64 runs and the skipper scored 34 runs off 20 deliveries.  A total of 18 teams have now qualified for the tournament. Only two spots for the tournament will be in the Africa qualifier, scheduled to play at the end of the month.
