Shardul Thakur released by KKR

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 retention process has started and most teams have released the players and traded the cricketers as well ahead of the auction, which is scheduled to take place on November 19 in Dubai. The process will end in less than 24 hours and the majority of the teams have made their retentions and traded the players they required.

Ahead of the auction, the Knights will be releasing the star all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Thakur scored only 113 runs from 11 innings and picked up only seven wickets and could not make up for the price tag of INR 10.75 CR.

Meanwhile, KKR has brought back their title-winning skipper Gautam Gambhir as a mentor, and they would like to replicate the success that Gauti brought to the team during his six-year tenure as captain. Gambhir was part of the Lucknow SuperGiants team and has given them success in his two-year tenure as a mentor.

The former KKR skipper would like to bring back the glory days of the Knights that they had between 2011-2017. Since then they have been inconsistent while qualifying for the playoffs.

I am not an emotional person and not many things move me: Gautam Gambhir

The former India skipper said, "I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR."

KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan welcomed back the former captain. He said, "Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our Captain coming back home in a different avatar as a "Mentor". He was sorely missed and now we all look forward to Chandu Sir and Gautam in instilling the never-say-die spirit and of sportsmanship they stand for, in creating magic with Team KKR."
