Virat Kohli has been in sensational form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The batter is the highest run scorer for India in the tournament with 543 runs in 8 innings. Kohli achieved the milestone on Sunday tying Sachin Tendulkar's 49th ODI century against South Africa, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He scored his 49th century on his birthday which was on the very same day the Men in Blue was facing the Proteas.
The former India skipper took his time on a relatively slower pitch of Eden. Kohli was unbeaten on 101 runs off 121 deliveries. After the match, he was caught boarding a domestic flight and the fans went crazy and were shocked to see him on a domestic flight. The fans recognised the cricketer and took some photos and videos of him.
The 35-year-old has scored two hundreds in the tournament so far. He played some brilliant match-winning knocks in the mega event though he had the chance of making the ton in previous matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka respectively but he missed after playing a knock of 95 and 88 runs, respectively.

Sachin Tendulkar also wished for Kohli's achievement
After reaching the milestone on his birthday, Sachin also congratulated the former skipper saying, "Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!." Kohli took 277 innings to score 49 hundreds while Tendulkar scored 450 innings. Kohli after reaching the record said, "It's a huge honour to equal my hero's record. People like comparisons -- I am never going to be as good as him. He is perfection with batting. It's an emotional moment."
India has already qualified for the semi-final. They are currently the only unbeaten side in the tournament and have won 8 out of their 8 matches so far. They next face Netherlands in the last league game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
