The auction of the second edition of the Women's Premier League is underway. The dynamics of the franchises have been very difficult to understand till now. One literally could not predict who would get sold or unsold. Several star players were not picked in the initial two rounds of the auctions. On the other hand, many players whose names are not popular bagged some big deals. Many players who were a part of some of the star-studded teams in international cricket went unsold.

Some of those players were in form in the recently concluded Women's Big Bash League. Even the players with big reputations could not make it to the squads. The strategies of the franchises were hard to understand, as many players who were almost certain to get picked, went unsold. Most of them were from overseas teams, who were touted to be some of the best players in the world. Young Indian players seem to have impressed the owners of the franchises in this auction.

Five players who got unsold in the first two rounds of the auction till now:

5. Veda Krishnamurthy

Veda Krishnamurthy does not play cricket regularly these days. Neither in domestic cricket nor in international cricket is she a regular. But given the class, one would have expected her to be picked up by the franchises. Veda is known as an aggressive batter. Back when she made her debut, she was touted to be the next big thing in cricket. At the peak of her career, Veda was very good as a finisher. For these factors, she was expected to be picked. Unfortunately, no franchise showed their interest in picking her.

4. Alana King

Alana King has been one of the integral parts of the Australian team that has dominated world cricket. Alana is without a doubt one of the best right-arm-off spinners in the world. King played a key role in Australia's World Cup-winning campaign in 2020 and 2022. Despite making her name, King got unsold, as she had a limited role to offer. In general, spinners are not in demand in the league, especially those who are not from India. Many other overseas spinners who had registered their names in the auction have gone unsold till now.

3. Chamari Athapaththu

Chamari Athapaththu is one of the most aggressive openers in world cricket. Athapaththu played one of the greatest knocks of all time when she scored a fabulous hundred against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2017. Even in recent years, the Southpaw has been as good as ever. In the recently concluded Women's BBL, Chamari was in fantastic form. Given her aggressive nature with the bat and some useful bowling, the Sri Lankan was almost an obvious player to be picked. But her not getting sold has surprised many. No franchise seemed to be interested in her.

2. Deandra Dottin

Deandra Dottin is a versatile batter. As an opener, Dottin can be an explosive batter. in the middle order, Dottin possesses the skill sets to anchor the innings. If required, Deandra can offer some bowling as well. It was expected Deandra to be in huge demand. In the recently concluded WBBL, Dottin was in a very good form. The confidence she had in herself led her to set a base price of INR 50 lakhs, the joint-most for a player. When on song, the West Indian cricketer can win matches on her own. Her not getting picked was one of the biggest surprises.

1. Kim Garth

Kim Garth has shined for her team in the sport. The Irish-born cricketer is one of the most exciting talents to watch out for in the world of cricket at the moment. Earlier this year in the WPL, she claimed a fifer. In recent times, Garth has been in phenomenal form. Along with Dottin, she was one of the two cricketers who set their base price at INR 50 lakhs, the highest for a player in the league. The skill sets Garth possesses sets her apart from other bowlers. In the recently concluded WBBL, Garth was in phenomenal form. Yet, no franchise picked her in the first round.
